Split House
2026

Split House is a 650-square-foot upstate cabin that takes the most basic house shape—a gable—and literally cuts it in half. Designed for a close friend, the ground-up project turns that split into its defining feature: a deep overhang that doubles as a carport, deck, or just a very good place to stand and stare at the landscape.

Inside, the house is compact but not shy. A spiral staircase leads to a mezzanine bedroom that looks down onto the open living space below, keeping everything visually connected (privacy is relative). Two oversized cut-outs on either end frame the Hudson Valley mountains, making the view do most of the decorating.
